SUMMARY:February Workshop and Lecture: Miriam Dym
DESCRIPTION:Lecture: Pattern Play\, Human Algorithms\, And Block Printing \n  \nBlocking printing\, an ancient method for reproducing patterns on cloth\, is modular and additive. Coupled with transparent dyes that can be layered\, block printing has the capacity for endless variation even with repetition. Miriam Dym will share her insights into the fabulousness of block printing with a focus on algorithms\, human feedback loops\, and play as work. \n  \nRoosevelt Room – Q-80  Free for members; $5 guests at door \n  \nWorkshop: Block Print And Play With Patterns! \nThe workshop begins with a brief demonstration and instructions on printing. Printing tools will be found objects and some “official” printing blocks. Class participants will create their own prints on cloth. Using dyes prepared to print\, participants can layer colors and shapes. The goal is to find out where our patterns take us\, have fun\, and see if making a mess gives good results. \n  \nMultipurpose Room – M-50 \n1:30 to 5:00 PM   3.5 hour workshop\, Kit Fee $30 \nClass size: 20 students \n$55 members\, $70 guests \nSupply List \n\n\n\nFabric\, dyes\, and some printing tools are provided.\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\nParticipants can bring other painting tools and fabric that you love to sew with.\n\n\n\n  \n\nHaving taken other dye and print classes\, this editor also suggests an apron and perhaps gloves.
