Pat Herkal: Beading on 3-Dimensional Cloth Figures
My first beadwork focused on jewelry and beading techniques. I then began working in 3D, creating pieced, embroidered and beaded vessels, then sculptural critters. I make lichen, a variety of ocean life, animals, and my favorite – birds. I have created a plethora of birds – real and from my imagination. I use photographs in books and magazines to create my patterns. MY work is made from silk or pages from discontinued upholstery sample books I layer fabric with thread, beads, trinkets, shells, stones and found objects
