spoolPeninsula Wearable Art Guild’s 2021 Scholarships: Mariana Briskin and Crystal Uyen Vi Vu Hua

Mariana Briskin and Crystal Uyen Vi Vu Hua are the winners of the Peninsula Wearable Arts Guild 2021 Scholarship. The award is given annually to two students who best demonstrate creativity, technical skill, and dedication to wearable art, fashion and design.

Mariana Briskin, of Cañada College, wants to be a costumer and is already working with Theater Works. She got her start just last year, with Beginning Clothing – simple t-shirt, shorts, and vest, but is now already an accomplished fitter, sewist, and pattern maker.   Each of the dresses featured here were self-drafted for her figure which is very difficult to fit.  Her pattern work and sewing could not be more precise.

Crystal Uyen Vi Vu Hua is a student at West Valley. Crystal uses sustainable/vintage fabrics, then adds delicate embroidery and applique for a made-to-order clothing brand she is developing.
