  • February 14 | Harriet Riddell — Zoom Program and Demo: Travels Around the World with a Sewing Machine

    An special extended online Zoom webinar featuring Harriett Riddell and including a live demo of her process.
    Harriet has traveled extensively, taking with her a sewing machine and a table strapped to her back as she bicycles through groups of people.  .  She will then select a subject of which she will create a portrait.  But this isn’t the usual charcoal sketching – the sketch is totally stitched on the sewing machine with no hard sketches preceding.  She also frequently “sketches” scenes along the way, such as a wedding, or fishing village, or an interesting local scene, all powered by a bicycle!

    A simulcast (live and Zoom) hybrid seminar from Mayumi Fujio Have you ever seen a stunning flower, vine, mushroom, or leaf in nature and wished you could capture its beauty in cloth, to wear or display at home? Join us for a talk and a demo with fiber artist Mayumi Fujio who lives in the Bay Area creating silk scarves, wall decorations, and art to wear garments using natural dye and real leaves to print their pattern.

    An online Zoom webinar featuring Karen MIller. Katazome, the Japanese art of stencil dyeing, has been the foundation of Karen’s textile practice for 30 years. Her work involves beautiful textile art with a general peacefulness and has been widely exhibited in shows worldwide, most recently in two consecutive shows at Portland Japanese Garden.
