Description

Koos van den Akker was known for his painterly delight in mixing colors, patterns, and textures in unusual garments.  He was a collagist as much as a designer of apparel.

Explore the fabric collage techniques used by Koos van den Akker and learn to combine a variety of fabrics and fibers into a work of art. A frequent visitor to Koos’ workroom and boutique in New York, Marla will show you his collage techniques including fabric slicing, couching, applique, origami patches and using bias tape for both design and finishing edges.  Learn several methods for designing your collage pieces and get tips for choosing fabrics.  See how to combine silk, rayon, linen, cotton, wool, and synthetics.  Discover how to effectively combine colors, textures, prints, plaids, and stripes.  Sample garments, including jackets, coats, dresses, and accessories, will show you a variety of design ideas.  You’ll be ready to design your own masterpiece.
