Sunday workshop:   Sewing for the Body and the Soul

In this workshop students will begin to create a garment that will “speak” for them.  Using a traditional or contemporary pattern students will be encouraged to create a one-of-a-kind garment that will reflect individual personality or ethnicity, that create a mood, make a social or political statement or that expresses humor.  A variety of construction and embellishment techniques will be explored.  Students will be mixing contrasting prints, colors and textures to create a personalized masterpiece.  With the addition of buttons, beads, bell baubles, braids, ribbons, molas, and/or lace each student’s garment will make a unique and individual statement. In this class students will initially focus on garment design, fabric selection and layout.  Rachel will work with students to complete the design phase and then move on to the construction of a garment.
